For example linux.preset for the official stable linux kernel package.. A preset is a pre-defined definition on how to create an initial ramdisk. Instead of specifying the configuration file and which output file, every time you generate a new initial ramdisk, you define a preset and use the -p switch to generate an initial ramdisk according to your preset. Presets are located in /etc/mkinitcpio.d. It seems /usr/lib/udev/scsi_id and /usr/lib/udev/ata_id are not being found and added to the initial ramdisk (see attached journal.txt) With some strace+grep magic, I think I found the problem (see attached systemd-hook-trace.txt) Escaped quotes in the filenames look like the culprit, I think initcpio-install-systemd might need to be fixed. As the presets in /etc/mkinitcpio.d/ support shell scripting, the kernel and initramfs can be copied by just editing the presets. Replacing the above mkinitcpio hook Edit the file /etc/mkinitcpio.d/linux.preset : /etc/mkinitcpio.d/linux.preset # mkinitcpio preset file for the 'linux' package # Directory to copy the kernel, the initramfs. It's unfortunate for sure, but this is a small community project ever since Archlinux mainline dropped i686 support as being uneconomic. We're all testing the distribution at this stage, although this shows they could perhaps do with a test setup that actually tests the coherence of the non-test repos. In the third part of this guide we will explain what system calls actually are and how they work under the Linux kernel. Furthermore, we will also try to write a simple syscall that will greet the user. If I'm editing the /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, and remake the initcpio with sudo mkinitcpio -p linux58, I'd only want to regenerate the default image (to make sure my system still works), and not the fallback image with it as well. As the default configuration stands, I'd overwrite the fallback image as well.
That does not work has there are no presets (the directory is empty) in /etc/mkinitcpio.d. Doing mkinitcpio -p linux51 gives me the same error as above. loup 21 December 2019 02:05 #14 It seem that arch will/is not using presets anymore ... news to me. You can try to create a custom image using this command.
It did output an error that the encrypt hook was not found. I even copied the files responsible for this hook from Arch, but there were some other errors after running mkinitcpio -P. Even now, when I do pacman -Ql mkinitcpio| grep encrypt I get no results. Can you do the same on your setup?
I'm not sure what is causing this problem. Interestingly, mkinitcpio wasn't updated in the update that broke, and downgrading linux fixes the initramfs again, so I'm guessing some change in the linux package was responsible. (building the initramfs for linux-4.18.11 on a running linux-4.18.11 (via fallback) creates a broken initramfs as well)
I'm not placing my bets on upstream as of yet as it involves at least three maintainers - mkinitcpio-nbd, encryptssh and nbd. I'll have to iron out the bugs before pushing it. For now, this is a hack I put together and keep using.
